IAIS

What is the IAIS?

After the mid-1990s when the neoclassic recipes for economic reforms showed their quite limited efficiency practically in all the post-Soviet states, economists began searching for a new economic paradigm which could be more adequate to the post-Soviet realities and, at the same time, would allow communication with foreign partners in the same language. The new paradigm was found in institutionalism (both “old” and “new”).

The main topics for studies are:

1. Methodology of the institutional economic theory

2. Theory of transactional costs

3. Theory of contracts

4. Theory of economic organization

5. Institutional theory of a state

6. Public choice theory

7. Economic theory of power

8. New economic theory

The Association’s goals are:

1. Contribution to the studies in the field of traditional and new institutional theory

2. Contribution to open discussions on key issues of institutional theory

3. Publishing articles on institutional subjects.

Post-Soviet Institutionalism – yearly miscellany, 2006. Power and Business. Edited by R. Nureev.

This monograph summarizes the results of studies in the field of institutional theory of interrelations between power and business in the pre-revolutionary Russia, in the USSR, and in the post-Soviet states. The work shows the prerequisites and the main stages of interactions between the state and business at macro-, meso- and microlevels. Though the economic situation in the former Soviet republics (Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan) is developing differently, the authors of the monograph believe that the common features prevail over the differences.

Post-Soviet Institutionalism – 2007. Ways of institutional development in Russia: prerequisites, regularities, prospects – compilation of articles. Edited by R. Nureev.

This compilation represents the results of the study on “Search for Efficient Institutes for Russia in the 21st Century” performed by the Professor R. Nureev’s Virtual Workshop which is an informal community of economists and sociologists from various cities united with institutional methodology and the aspiration for analysis of the regularities of the social and economic development of Russia in the period of its modernization. The authors introduce their analysis, in various aspects, of the two main institutes that they believe to impede development of modern economy in Russia – power-property and the national economic culture. Noticing the confrontation between various tendencies, the authors emphasize the multivariant character of economic development in Russia in the 21st Century.
